"Sensation! Multi-sensory art event

Wednesday 14th April, 2010... 1:00pm - 4:00pm... Price: Admission Free... Ages: All Ages... Lecturer: Catherine Chastney... Bring a packed lunch and eat with friends at 1pm. The event starts at 2pm

Artists in the 17th and 18th centuries show off their skill and whet our palates with their beautiful still life paintings of feasts and banquets, depicting soft bread, meaty pies and glistening fresh fish. Examine the food of the poorer and richer classes, what people ate, how they grew their food and how they flavoured it in this joint event with the Geffrye Museum. Day two of this event is on 12 May and will give you the opportunity to taste and smell a few foods and be guided around the gardens at the Geffrye Museum.

" “Together Through Art”: Professional Development in Universal Design for Learning and Disability Awareness for Teaching Artists in Schools

VSA Hawaii Workshop in Studio 202... Visiting Master Artists Gordon Sasaki and Jeannine Chartier... April 14 - 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., $60... April 15 - 8:30 a.m-4 p.m., $60

For information or to register for VSA arts programs, call 469-6651 or  visit the VSA arts office in Studio 202 of the Academy Art Center at Linekona • Monday through Friday, 9am-4pm

The “Together Through Art” workshop will enhance the art making experience for all art students, teachers, and teaching artists. With an emphasis on the creative process in both his art and teaching approaches, Gordon Sasaki and Jeannine Chartier use the inherent universal qualities of the arts to adapt lesson plans to individual needs. Both will present alternative teaching strategies for the classroom, using multi-sensory, inclusive formats, and universal design for learning that addresses the needs of all students.  With an emphasis on creating practical and inclusive lesson plans in a noncompetitive and fun learning environment.

Every student is unique and has 'problems' to solve. With a focus on the visual arts, we will explore disability to extinguish old stereotypes, generate new awareness, and reveal diversified instruction for arts standards. Infused in such a way as to promote discussion and new insights, this hands-on workshop session offers both practical tips for adaptations to include all children as well as experiential activities for arts educators to expand classroom practices for successfully including students with diverse abilities...
