October 5, 2010 – January 31, 2011

The New-York Historical Society, New York City presents “Breakthrough: The Dramatic Story of the Discovery of Insulin,” on view October 5, 2010 through January 31, 2011, commemorates the remarkable events of 1921—a year that brought a new era of hope for diabetic children and their families. The exhibition will bring to life the personalities who discovered insulin and raced to bring it to the world. “Breakthrough” also tells the story of one extraordinary New York girl—Elizabeth Evans Hughes—who was among the very first patients to be saved. For visually impaired visitors, there will be a verbal description audio tour featuring readings of exhibition texts, gallery overviews, detailed object descriptions and interviews with individuals living with diabetes. Mention Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month and receive half off adult admission. For details, contact Chris Catanese at (212) 485-9232 or ccatanese@nyhistory.org. ..."
