Information on Making Sense

"Making Sense which opens to the public on Saturday 13 March will feature work created by artists who have used tactile or sensory elements which invite the visitor to experience and explore the works on display.

The exhibition illustrates a rich and diverse variety of work from sumptuous colours, intriguing textures and creative materials, to sound art and interactive sculpture, and is designed to be accessible to all.

County Councillor Ben Adams, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture said: "This exhibition has a wonderful selection of interactive and tactile work on display which promises to offer visitors a new way of experiencing art, by using touch, smell and sound rather than sight alone".

Artists include, Jon Williams, Natasha Lewer, Denise Stanton, Ruth Spaak, Fiona Zobole, Cormac Faulkner, Andy & Merja Puustinen, Hannah Lobley, Rita Patel and Saranjit Birdi.

Alongside the exhibition is a display of the work produced as part of the Explore project. Explore is a user-friendly guide and web resource aimed at schools, community groups and organisations. It offers creative multisensory activities and advice from commissioning artists to running simple and practical workshops. It outlines three artist-led case studies which took place in three Special Needs Schools in Staffordshire.

Also on display at the same time will be Tabletop Treats, an exhibition which illustrates all things culinary. Representations of food created from a wide range of materials sit alongside gorgeous handmade tableware, condiment sets and everyday items from plates to platters.
All exhibitions will run until Sunday 9 May”
